From the Author
‘I trust you will enjoy this training course, as it will take you on a trip to an Italian island where you will eat the best spaghetti Bolognese… All this while learning how to argue that pet pigs are better than dogs.‘

The “Learn The Ropes” (LTR) Difference
Our books are written in big, friendly letters with a modern, easy style. With them, you braid together a web of competencies—the “ropes”—that turn you into a true master of communication.
The superpower combo: listen to the audiobook when on the move or drifting off to sleep for a first approach and final revision—an effortless immersion. Sit down and do the exercises in the paperback for hands-on practice and maximum memorisation. Submit your work and questions to a coach for tailored feedback and for expert guidance on your specific issues and wishes. You can find vetted remote work coaches in our Special Deals section.
‘From the very first page, it hooks you with warmth, clarity, simple language, and most refreshingly, with humor.
The book delivers exactly what it promises: concise guidance on speaking and writing effectively. I completed the entire book and its exercises in just three enjoyable hours, without feeling rushed or bored at any point. The author’s voice felt so present, I often caught myself smiling or laughing out loud.
Not to be unnoticed, the book itself is a triumph in usability. As a designer, I recognized the care taken to ensure every page communicates effortlessly: large fonts, intuitive use of color, and a brilliant summary table at the end. That cheat sheet now lives permanently on my desk, alongside another gem from the book, the categorized list of connector words. (Can you spot them in my review? 😉 )
The most interesting part for me is that it shines through the importance of the human factor in communication. It reminds us that communication is not just about clarity, but about connection with our communication partners.
Some of my favourite takeaways, apart from the tips and tools, are the easy recipes for structure (the 4S’s, IBC, SVO, etc.), and of course the metaphors! These alone deserve a standing ovation: from archipelagos to icebergs and drowned fish, serving their purpose to gently anchoring key ideas in your memory.
In conclusion, LTR 1 is a delightful trip into the art of clarity, with a captain who knows how to steer with purpose and playfulness. Next, I’ll be continuing the journey through LTR 2 to LTR 6, because this feels like the beginning of a very useful journey.’
